Law Enforcement Guidelines
Effective date: 10/22/2026
These guidelines explain how IdealMates, Inc. ("IdealMates") responds to requests for member information from law enforcement and government agencies. They are for officials only. Members with questions about their own data should see our Privacy Policy or contact us.
1. How to send a request
Email legal@idealmates.com from an official government email address, or mail it to:
IdealMates, Inc., Attn: Law Enforcement Response835 Wilshire Blvd., 5th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90017, USA
Please include:
- the issuing agency, officer name, badge or ID number, and official contact details;
- the legal process (subpoena, court order or warrant) as a signed document;
- the member's profile ID, email address or phone number linked to the account (we cannot reliably search by name or photo alone);
- the specific information requested and the date range.
2. What legal process we require
We disclose member information only as required by law, under the U.S. Stored Communications Act and other applicable law:
- Basic account information (such as the email address, sign-up date and recent sign-in IP addresses): a valid subpoena.
- Other non-content records (such as login history and device information): a court order under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(d).
- Content (such as messages and photos): a search warrant issued under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or equivalent state warrant procedures.
Requests from outside the United States should come through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), letters rogatory or another process recognized by U.S. law.
3. Emergency requests
If you believe someone faces an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, email legal@idealmates.com with "EMERGENCY" in the subject line. Describe the emergency and explain how the information requested will help prevent the harm. We review emergency requests as a priority and may disclose information voluntarily where the law allows.
4. Preservation requests
We will preserve account records for 90 days when we receive an official preservation request under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f), while you obtain legal process. One 90-day extension is available on request.
5. What data may be available
What we hold depends on how the account was used. Members can delete their accounts at any time. Deleted accounts can be restored for 30 days, after which personal information is erased as described in our Privacy Policy. Some payment and safety records are kept longer. We cannot provide data we no longer have.
6. Notice to members
Our policy is to tell members about requests for their information before we disclose it, unless the law prohibits it (for example, a non-disclosure order) or telling them would put someone at risk of harm.
7. Child safety
We report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as required by law.
8. Other requests
These guidelines don't cover civil litigation. We generally do not disclose message content in response to civil subpoenas.
