Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and IdealMates, Inc. ("IdealMates", "we", "us") when you use idealmates.com and the IdealMates app. Please read them: by creating an account, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines and Cancellation & refunds policy are part of these terms.

1. Who can use IdealMates

  • You must be at least 18 years old, and old enough to agree to a contract where you live.
  • IdealMates is for single adults looking for a lasting relationship or marriage. If you are married or in a relationship, IdealMates is not for you.
  • You may have one account, for yourself only. Accounts cannot be shared, sold or transferred.
  • You may not use IdealMates if you have been convicted of a violent or sexual offence, or if we have previously closed your account for breaking these terms.

2. Your account

  • Give accurate information: your real age, your own photos, and an honest description of yourself and what you are looking for.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and contact us.
  • You can sign in with email and password, or with Google or Apple. You can see and sign out of your signed-in devices under Account → Security.

3. How you must treat other members

You agree to follow our Community Guidelines. In particular, you must not:

  • harass, threaten, insult or discriminate against anyone;
  • send sexual content to anyone who has not clearly welcomed it;
  • ask other members for money, gifts, investments or financial details, or promote any business, scheme or service;
  • pretend to be someone else, or use photos that are not of you;
  • share another member's private information or messages without their permission;
  • take part in, promote or facilitate human trafficking, sex trafficking, or any other form of sexual exploitation, or offer, request or advertise sex in exchange for money or anything else of value;
  • abuse anyone, or aid, abet or encourage abuse of any kind — physical, sexual, emotional or financial — including coercion, threats, blackmail or “sextortion”, grooming, stalking, or taking advantage of anyone who is vulnerable;
  • post, share or ask for any content that involves or sexualises anyone under 18, or contact anyone you know or suspect is under 18;
  • use IdealMates for anything illegal, including fraud and sex work.

4. Your content

  • You own what you post: your photos, profile text and messages.
  • So that we can run the service, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, resize and transmit that content to other members according to your settings, for as long as it is on IdealMates. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except where we must keep it as described in our Privacy Policy, for example as part of a safety report.
  • Only post content you have the right to post. Photos must show you, and we review them before other members can see them.
  • We may remove content, or decline to show it, if it breaks these terms or our guidelines.

5. Safety

  • We do not run criminal background checks on members, and we cannot guarantee that what members say about themselves is true.
  • You are responsible for your own interactions with other members, online and in person. Read our safety tips. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you are going, and never send money to someone you have met online.
  • Report anyone who makes you uncomfortable or breaks these rules. You can also block anyone at any time; they are not told.
  • If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first.
  • We report suspected human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and threats to someone’s life to law enforcement and the appropriate authorities, and we respond to valid legal requests as described in our Law Enforcement Guidelines.

6. Membership and payments

  • Creating an account and using the basic features is free. Optional paid memberships unlock extra features. What each plan includes and costs is shown before you buy.
  • Memberships renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you bought it, until you cancel. We will tell you in advance if the price of your plan changes, and the new price applies only from your next renewal.
  • Bought on our website: you pay through Stripe or PayPal. You can cancel renewal at any time under Upgrade → Your membership → Cancel renewal on the website, or Account → Membership → Cancel renewal in the app; you keep your features until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Bought in the app: Apple or Google handles the payment under their own terms. Cancel through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting your IdealMates account does not cancel a store subscription.
  • Refunds are covered by our Cancellation & refunds policy. Purchases through Apple or Google are refunded by them, under their rules.
  • Taxes may be added where the law requires.

7. Ending your account

  • You can delete your account at any time under Account → Delete account. Your profile disappears immediately. For 30 days you can restore it by signing in; after that your personal information is erased as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not by itself refund a membership.
  • We may warn you, limit features, hide your profile, or suspend or close your account if you break these terms or our guidelines, if we believe you are a risk to other members, or if the law requires it. Where it is safe to do so, we will tell you why. If your account is closed for breaking these terms, unused paid time is not refunded, except where the law requires.
  • If you believe we made a mistake, contact us and we will look at it again.

8. The service

  • We work to keep IdealMates available and secure, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, or that you will find a match.
  • We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what a paid membership includes, we will tell you, and you can cancel.
  • IdealMates is provided "as is" to the extent the law allows.

9. Our liability

To the extent the law allows, IdealMates is not liable for the conduct of any member, on or off the service, or for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.

10. Disputes and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before bringing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally. Any claim that cannot be resolved will be handled by the state or federal courts in Los Angeles County, California, unless the law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring it in your local courts.

11. Changes to these terms

If we make significant changes, we will tell you in advance by email or in the service, and ask you to accept the new terms before you continue to use IdealMates. Each version is dated, and earlier versions remain available on request.

12. Translations

These terms are available in several languages. If a translation differs from the English version, the English version applies.
